Balancing Passions: A Journey of Family, Finance, and Community
I grew up in the charming coastal town of Dana Point, Southern California, where my love for learning and community began. As a child, I excelled in school, won several spelling bees, and spent my time reading and making memories with friends. This passion for education carried me to Cal State University Fullerton, where I earned degrees in English and Child Development.
While in college, I started working for Bank of America and discovered my passion for finance. I found immense satisfaction in helping people navigate their financial challenges and build brighter futures. Alongside my branch responsibilities, I began teaching credit card training and financial product classes to new employees, which marked the start of a lifelong commitment to financial education. Over the years, I’ve taught first-time homebuyer workshops and, more recently, courses at local real estate and Board of Realtors offices. These classes contribute to continuing education for annual licensing requirements, including KW and NMAR CE classes.
In 1998, I transitioned to mortgage brokering, joining a reputable brokerage in Newport Beach where experienced mentors helped me grow into a skilled lender and financial advisor. My first child, Zach, was born in 1999, and my priorities shifted. Long commutes made me determined to find a way to work from home and spend more time with my family. Though it meant leaving a company I loved, I established my own branch within a larger network of lenders, creating one of the first home-based mortgage offices. This flexibility allowed me to meet my clients’ needs while being present for my family—a delicate balance I’ve maintained throughout my career.
Reflecting on those early days, I realize I was ahead of my time, crafting a productive home workspace long before remote work became common. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I shared my expertise to help others transition smoothly to working from home. I continue to work diligently to exceed my clients’ expectations, helping them improve their credit, reduce debt, build savings habits, and increase their net worth. Their financial success is my greatest reward.
In 2021, after 50 years in Southern California, my family and I moved to Kalispell, Montana. It was a significant change but one that has enriched our lives in countless ways. My little one Ryan, is now a towering 6 feet tall, adapted seamlessly to the slower-paced lifestyle, excelling in school, sports, and activities. My husband and I enjoy working from home, relishing Montana’s breathtaking seasons without the hassle of commuting in snowy weather. We’ve embraced hiking, snowboarding, and exploring our new community.
Outside of work, I am deeply committed to giving back. I live by the philosophy of saying:
YES to Random Acts of Kindness,
YES to Local Community Involvement,
YES to supporting small businesses,
YES to fundraising support, and
YES to scholarship opportunities.
I regularly volunteer with local charities, packaging food and gathering essentials for families in need. Over the years, I’ve been a scout leader, classroom volunteer, team mom, and an active supporter of my boys’ passions and activities. Whether it’s attending every game, managing team communications, or serving on fundraising committees like the high school football booster program, I strive to contribute wherever I can. From hosting team dinners to decorating buses for playoff games, I’m proud to cheer for my kids and their teams relentlessly.
My journey has been one of balancing a fulfilling career, a thriving family life, and a dedication to my community. Each chapter has shaped who I am today—a financial educator, advisor, volunteer, and proud parent committed to making a difference in the lives of those around me.
